After moving to Sebastopol in 1994, musician Les Claypool became a fan of the area’s wine. He and his wife decided to make their own, but didn't like the pretentious element of the industry.

In 2011, Claypool Cellars acquired arguably two of the best winemakers in California--Ross Cobb and Katy Wilson. This duo has a reputation of crafting complex, well-balanced wines, focusing on single-vineyard, cool climate Pinots with a pedigree belying their young ages. Ross has worked for Williams Selyem, Flowers, Hirsch, and his own Cobb label, and was named one of the top 100 winemakers by Wine&Spirits magazine this year. Katy has worked at Testarossa, Kamen, Joseph Phelps, Flowers and her LaRue label and was featured as a “winemaker to watch” in the San Francisco Chronicle.

With the motto, "Fancy wine for Semi-Fancy Folks," Claypool Cellars strives to make wine approachable and fun, but still of world-class quality.
